Our gearbox inspections are always tailored to the type and manufacturer of the gearbox being examined, as well as customers’ unique requirements.
Gearbox Installation Types
On larger industrial gearboxes, we use all forms of hand tools to remove inspection covers to undertake the visual inspection.
On smaller and more specialised gearboxes and gear reducers, our engineers use hi-tech borescopes/ video scopes to carry-out the inspection without causing unforeseen damage to the asset. Internal components are identified on a video monitor as the equipment is moved around inside the motor. Inspection can take place in real-time with live feedback or by using the high-resolution photos and videos captured during the inspection following the removal of the camera.
From both methods of inspection, we then produce a written report identifying any issues affecting gears (damage, contact patterns), cases, covers, bearings, breathers, lubrication systems and any other aspect relating to the drive system.
It is also regular practice to take an oil sample during a gearbox inspection.
